Safer Country’s Red Flag Forum
Safer Country, the Alexandria-based gun violence prevention non-profit organization, is working to get every state to participate fully in the background check system for gun purchases. As well, we are working to advance and educate about red flag, finger printing at point of sale, and safer storage laws.
On Thursday from 7-9 p.m., June 25, on Zoom, Safer Country will host the Red Flag Forum on the creation and implementation of Virginia’s new red flag (extreme risk protection order) law, which allows law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from people who are believed to pose an extreme risk to themselves or others.
The Red Flag Forum will feature Rep. Don Beyer (VA-8), VA State Delegate Rip Sullivan (D-48); Alexandria’s Chief of Police Michael Brown; Alexandria’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter; expert on protection orders Attorney Rebecca Wade, Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken, & Leischner PLLC; and recently retired Army Colonel Mike Jason. It will be moderated by Safer Country Executive Director Paul Friedman.
